Update

It’s been over 2 months since I posted anything, so a little update is due…….

Normoxic Trimix – didn’t finish the course :(   The weather on the last 2 days meant it wasn’t possible to get the 60m depth required for the qualifying dives.  It just means I need to go back to Malta to complete it next year!

Purchase wise, as I seem to progressing with the tech side of things quicker than I anticipated, a backplate and harness is next!  Not sure on the backplate yet, but for the harness i’m pretty much decided on the new Uno from Custom Divers.

Apeks DS4/XTX50/XTX40 Regs

As I have started to progress through the various stages of technical diving, I decided it was time I bought a new set of regs for just such diving.  After reading many posts on the Yorkshire Divers forums I deicded on the Apeks DS4 1st Stage wtih XTX50 2nd Stage and a Apeks DS4 1st Stage with XTX40 2nd Stage.  I’ll post a mini review when I return from Malta.

Dive System Tech Fins

I’ve just bought some new fins – Dive System Tech Fins. Initially I was after the Scubapro Jet Fins in a Large size (for UK 9-10 shoe size), but I couldn’t get them on! The Dive Sytem Tech Fins are very similar but had a much larger pocket. A little review to follow after i’ve used them in Malta in a coulpe of weeks.

Northern Diver Superstretch Gloves

At the dive show a couple of weeks ago, I picked up a new pair of gloves.  Northern Diver Superstretch 2mm Gloves – well worth a look – http://www.northerndiver.com/english/site/accessories/gloves.html

Picture: Full Kit including new arms

The most expensive bit of aluminum i’ve ever bought!

This is probably the most expensive bit of aluminum i’ve ever bought, but well worth it.  I’m talking about a new arm setup from Ultralight Control Systems.  I only recently got my strobe and 10bar Arm but ive quickly found I need more flexibility in where I can position the strobe if i’m to improve my photography skills.

I’ve now got and 8″ arm with 2 clamps at either end giving me much greater flexability when positioning the strobe and also the possibility of adding additional arms.

Pictures to follow soon.

I haven’t blogged about anything for a while, so I thought it was about time I sat down and wrote something.  I’ve recently order a new mask – The Atomic Aquatics SubFrame Twin Lens Mask (see my post below).  I won’t actually get a change to try it out properly until I goto Egypt in November.

I’ve also been looking at getting a new pair of fins.  Currently i’ve got a near 2 year old pair of Mares fins (can’t remember the name) they are looking very worn and I’m in need of something new.  Along the same lines as the mask, Atomic do 2 nice pairs of SplitFins, one called SplitFin, the other with the rather interesting name of SplitFin Smoke on the Water.  Both are around the £90-£100 mark, but also Mares have a newish pair, Raptor Fins, also SplitFins and around £85.

Atomic SubFrame Twin Lense Mask

I’ve decided I need a new mask to replace my current mask.  I’ve been looking at the Atomic SubFrame Twin Lense Mask or the same mask but with ARC technology lenses.  Prices range from £70 – £90 with the ARC technology lens mask coming in at the higher.  Aparantly according the Atomic Aquatics website ARC technology lenses are a must for night diving, limited vis conditions and underwater photographers.

Inon UFL-165AD Fisheye Lens

To complete the my underwater camera kit, I’ve been looking at getting a Inon UFL-165AD Fisheye Lens.  The lens has a max viewing angel of 165 degrees.  Hopefully i’ll have some test shots if I get a chance to try it out.
